The breakdown service (towing and removal of vehicles), which is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is carried out exclusively by service providers approved to operate on motorways. Approvals (for light vehicles or heavy goods vehicles) are granted by the Prefectures for a limited period (5 years for light vehicles and 7 years for heavy goods vehicles), following a call for tenders monitored by the government. A set of specifications sets out the performance targets and quality requirements.
For light vehicles, Atlandes organises a rapid breakdown service with a maximum response time of 30 minutes. The rates, which change every year, are regulated by ministerial decree in order to guarantee total transparency for the user.

Only these professionals are authorised to intervene on the motorway, for safety reasons (high vehicle speeds and heavy traffic), but also to guarantee that intervention times and quality criteria are respected.
