To meet the ever-increasing parking needs of HGVs travelling on the A63, particularly in the south-north direction, Atlandes has come up with an innovative concept that will significantly increase the number of spaces available without increasing the surface area required.
The idea is to offer HGVs the chance to park in columns of 4 spaces one behind the other, positioning them according to their desired break times or departure times. A terminal at the entrance to the car park (which remains free of charge) will allow drivers to declare their break time or desired departure time. A screen, followed by variable message signs above the parking columns, will guide them to their parking space.
The concept will be implemented at the Lugos Est service area. The current 72 parking spaces shown in the photo below will be replaced by 132 spaces divided into 32 columns of 4 spaces each.

This concept has already been implemented in Germany(https://en.kolonnenparken.de/history/) and is familiar to many HGV drivers using the A63.

How will the work be carried out?
Work to reorganise the car park will necessitate a total closure of the area for several months. To compensate for the lack of parking spaces during this period, the Labouheyre Westrest area , located upstream, will beextended . Work is currently underway and the new zone, with around forty spaces, will be operational by the end of the year.
You can follow the progress of the works in the dedicated section.
